Ener-Agri-Academy

Energy and Agriculture Academy

This week we celebrated the success of nearly 50 students as they graduated from the Kern County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce's "Energy and Agriculture Academy."

Our Academy is an educational program co-created with the KCHCC Business Education Foundation. The course is designed to introduce local students to opportunities in Kern County's energy and agriculture industries. Proudly sponsored by Chevron and in academic partnership with Bakersfield College, the academy is also supported by the Kern Energy Foundation, Area Energy LLC, and California Resources Corporation.

We would also like to extend our gratitude to AERA Energy for their hospitality in hosting our graduation ceremony as participants received a scholarship for their completion of the program.

Kern County Board of Supervisors

We were happy to support our member, The Tejon Indian Tribe at the Kern County Board of Supervisors meeting last week. We know a project of this size will have a huge impact on our county, which would include up to 1,500 new jobs. When you add all this up, the project stands to employ from the first turn of dirt to grand opening well over 5,000 jobs at a cost of $600 million! Such great news, congrats again Tejon Indian Tribe and Hard Rock Hotel and Casino!

Earthquakes in Ridgecrest

ridgecrest-earthquake

We would like to send our gratitude to all of the first responders, elected officials, and volunteers who assisted with the earthquakes in Ridgecrest. Senator Shannon Grove and Congressman Kevin McCarthy have been spending countless hours in the Ridgecrest community, ensuring their constituents are heard and cared for.

According to the Red Cross, there are 129 people at the Kerr McGee Community Center in Ridgecrest. They currently have sufficient food and water but are looking for a backup shelter site if needed. Supplies are being provided by LA and Kern County.

The Red Cross is asking that residents do not send any donations right now, but await instructions from the organization as the current situation makes it difficult to process the donations at the emergency shelter. If people still would like to help out, the Red Cross is accepting monetary donations on their website and volunteers are welcome.
